Microsoft's moves toward grid are very different than the things that DataSynapse and Platform are doing. Microsoft is adding features to the operating system (and just above the operating system, like MPI) that will enable people to write grid-friendly apps on Windows. DataSynapse and Platform have software solutions that sit on top of the OS. Right now, those companies are encouraging their customers to use Linux solutions--partly because of the OS price, and partly because of the OS features (and partly because IBM is involved in many of their deals).
Microsoft wants to enable Windows as an architecture for distributed systems.
If you're interested in a company that has a .NET distributed computing solution, check out my company Digipede, or feel free to read my blog West Coast Grid, where I muse about grid/distributed computing on the Windows OS.

It is the thin edge of the wedge, as far as I am concerned, that once the facilities are at the OS level, then next will come the appropriate Tools / Applications. They certainly have a lot of catch up to do, perhaps even looking at aquisition to make a significant step forward, not the first time that they have aquired technology.
Thanks for the link, I certainly am in the market for a .Net solution for my distributed computing needs.

If you really are interested in a .NET distributed computing solution, I'd like to invite you to our webinar on Thursday, November 17th. It's 30 minutes, and it's aimed at developers--we'll start with an overview, but actually get into some code before the 30 minutes are through. You can register at http://www.digipede.net/products/webinar.html.
